Article Promotion Analyse

USC Rossier School is one of the graduate schools of the University of Southern California and one of the top-ranked online educational institutions. Rossier School is promoting their master program to those who interested in being a K-12 School Counselor. As part of their promoting campaign, they use one single ad in two different posts to promote this service.

Seascape Principles

  • Principle of Expectations

The principle of expectation declares the value expected by the user what the user really gets. This ad can be displayed to different people, even those that are not graduated. In a way to reduce the effect of the Principle of Expectation in those users who try to enroll in the program without having a Bachelor’s Degree; as you can see, no more of the requirements are presented in the promotion.

  • Least Resistance

This principle is based on how easy an action for the user is. Normally, people have to pass a GRE test before enrolling into a master degree. Adding the ‘No GRE Required’ is a way to catch the attention of the user and share a feeling of simplicity of the program. When the user press the ‘Learn more’ button, not only redirected the user to a page where the user can find more information about the program but also where the user can sign up.

  • Attention Principle

In a way to get the attention of the user and call him to action, they added an ‘Act soon’ phrase by telling the user that the deadline to sign up is getting close.

  • Progress Principle

One remark to this campaign is the fact of what product is promoted. Online classes have become more popular among students in the last five years, different universities developed or are in the process of an online program.

Design Analysis

  • Contrast

Using a yellow background with a black typeface create a great contrast and keep consistency with the black color font used in the USC Rossier logo.

  • Lead Lines

Lines are present in the photo design leading the user to the building in the back, plus the students walking.

  • Rule of Thirds

In the design, the text is aligned to the right vertical line in the rule of thirds. The full-text content is wrapped between the two horizontal lines.

FMSC keeps a simple color scheme mostly based on two different tones of blue. These two color changes or switch to keep contrast and consistency. The dark blue color matches the organization logo. In this ad, the globe is made using the two same colors.

  • Consistency

FMSC uses consistency by creating ads for their different channels by adjusting the layout to fulfill the channel requirements. In this example, the same ad is used on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Even when the same image was used on Facebook and Twitter, the ad had to be adjusted for Instagram because of the square image requirement.

Use your “alt” tags in all your images and media content. When Google look at your content and found and image or video, the computer can’t know what the picture is about. The program just registers that your page shows an image, this will not increase your SEO. To avoid this, include “alt” tags to your content; these tags are words or phrases that describe your media content. When Google’s computer look at your website with “alt” tags, it reads the description at the tags and registrar what the picture is about. Tags will help Google to know what your content is about and what you are showing on your site.

Keep your site easy to navigate. Place your navigation bar in an easily accessible place, most users will look for your bar at the top or right site of the screen. Make sure your menu is clear and no overloaded.

Optimize your site load speed. More users will close your site if the load speed is more than 3 seconds. You can test your site load speed using the free Google Website Test. After you run a test, if your site is loading slow, you can receive a detailed report with tips on how to increase your speed.

Increasing your SEO is not a one-time task, it takes time but is worth. Look for ways to improve your site and obtain the most you can from your money by having a high SEO website.
